First time renters, including those who have experienced housing instability and who lack significant financial resources, are especially vulnerable to discrimination by brokers, landlords, and other housing providers. They deserve to be provided with critical awareness of their fair housing rights.

Through this initiative, the FHJC conducts live presentations for colleges, high schools, and community-based organizations. Our goal is to reach young people who are contemplating leaving their guardians’ home for the first time. Presentations are led by FHJC staff either in-person or online, and include printed handouts. Schools and organizations are also invited to contact us regarding the use of the materials to conduct their own workshops.

Sessions can be customized using any combination of the following topics:

YOUR GENERATION CAN PLAY A KEY ROLE IN MAKING FAIR HOUSING A LIVING REALITY FOR EVERYONE.

If you think you are experiencing any form of housing discrimination, contact the FHJC. We will help sort out the facts and provide you with information about your rights and options under fair housing laws. Our counseling and investigative services are provided for free, regardless of income.

Fair Housing for Young Adults was made possible with funding from an Education and Outreach Initiative (EOI) grant from the Fair Housing Initiative Program (FHIP) of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
